What If I Told You There Already Is a Vaccine (also What If I Told You We Already Have a Vaccine) is a catchphrase used in humorous image macros that present various consumables and objects as a vaccine for COVID-19. Originating from a viral Twitter meme, the format gained moderate popularity online in December 2020.
Origin
On December 8th, Twitter[1] user @haramcart posted an photograph of three packs of cigarettes captioned "What if I told you there already is a vaccine," referencing the COVID-19 disease and using What If I Told You setup. The post (shown below) received over 1,800 retweets and 15,500 likes in one week.
Spread
On December 9th, Instagram[2] account gang_alcohol_on_ig posted the earliest derivative macro using the phrase, a Joker meme. The post (shown below) received over 3,100 likes in one week.
On December 12th, 2020, Twitter[3] user @HaloCEOfficial posted a version of the meme that received over 1,300 retweets and 9,900 likes in five days (shown below, left). On December 13th, Twitter[4] user @milkinhisbag posted a similar meme that gained over 24,400 retweets and 196,700 likes in four days (shown below, right).
Following the viral spread of @HaloCEOfficial and @milkinhisbag, image macros based on the phrase gained popularity on Twitter and Instagram, with users presenting various consumables and objects as a vaccine for COVID-19.
