Origin

On May 28th, 2022, the Instagram^[1] page fakenewsnetwork posted an image of the Marvel character Doctor Strange captioned with a fake Hollywood Reported headline reading, "What if Doctor Strange was named Doctor Freak and he ate ass and sucked toes" (authorship unconfirmed). The post (shown below) received over 10,300 likes in two years.

Spread

On May 28th, 2022, the image was also posted on Tumblr^[2] by user crazy-brazilian, gaining over 1,500 likes and reblogs in two years, and on Facebook^[3] where it received over 1,400 reactions and 520 shares in the same period. More reposts of the image went viral in the second half of 2022 and in 2023.

On August 12th, 2023, X^[4] / Twitter user @NxtDeterio posted the earliest found derivative meme based on the image making a reference to Peaky Blinders, with the post gaining over 480 reposts and 2,100 likes in five months (shown below, left). On September 11th, Instagram user s_w_falcon made another post using an image of Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars that received over 186,000 likes in four months (shown below, right).

The caption saw continued use in late 2023 and early 2024, with users adapting it to reference additional characters from various franchises.
