What Happens In One Minute refers to an exploitable graphic featuring four statistics about what happens over the course of one minute. The fourth panel is changed in variations to show a humorous statistic. The image trended in /r/dankmemes in January of 2018.

Origin

On January 17th, 2018, Redditor TheSuperFabio^[1] uploaded the first post using the format. In the fourth panel, the statistic reads "France surrenders." The post gained over 19,000 upvotes (shown below).

Spread

Over the course of the following day, several variations appeared in the subreddit. Some of the variations were sincere. For example, a post referencing Ugandan Knuckles gained over 380 upvotes in 19 hours (shown below, left). Another doing the same gained 50 upvotes in 5 hours (shown below, right).

Many of the variations created offered meta commentary on the meme. For example, a variation calling the format "a shit meme format" gained over 750 upvotes, making it the second most popular variation as of January 18th, 2018 (shown below, left). Another post predicted the meme would "quickly go normie" and gained over 40 upvotes (shown below, right).
