Welcome To My Tower, Master Chief refers to a line said in the 2021 Halo game Halo Infinite by the antagonist Chak' Lok to Master Chief during an elite boss fight. The moment from the game was first revealed to fans in November 2021 and soon became an exploitable image macro in memes on YouTube and Reddit. In 2022, it also spread to Twitter and Facebook where meme creators continued to photoshop Chak' Lok, replacing words and symbols in the original screencap.

Origin

On November 19th, 2021, during a walkthrough of the Halo Infinite game, a boss fight was leaked on YouTube where Master Chief enters a tower occupied by an elite named Chak' Lok. When he first enters the same room, Chak' Lok says to him, "Welcome to my tower, Master Chief," holding an energy sword and then jumping down from the platform he's standing on. The moment in the game was uploaded to YouTube^[1] on November 19th by the channel Fallen_Soul, where over the course of two months, it's received roughly 11,900 views (shown below).

The first internet user to use the scene within a meme was YouTuber^[2] Clipsel. On December 5th, 2021, they posted a video titled, "You Are NOT Welcome to My Tower Master Chief," earning roughly 30,100 views over the course of one month (shown below).

Spread

The first image macro to use the meme as a template was uploaded to Reddit's /r/Halomemes^[3] on December 9th, 2021, by Redditor OmegaFreelancer318. The meme (shown below) makes a joke about meeting one's girlfriend's parents, and it earned over 360 likes in two months.

Gong into January 2022, Welcome To My Tower, Master Chief memes were used en masse within the Halo Plasmaposting Facebook group. The first meme to be shared there using the template was posted by Facebook^[4] user Matthew Parkyn on January 8th. His meme (shown below) replaced words in the template to read, "Welcome to my BBQ, Master Chef," earning roughly 1,400 reactions over the course of a month and a half.

On January 9th, 2022, the meme was referenced on 4chan ^[5] with an anonymous user saying, "Welcome to my thread," and photoshopping the body of Chak' Lok into the Computer Guy cartoon (shown below).

More memes were posted to Facebook's Halo Plasmaposting going into the rest of January. For instance, on January 12th, 2022, Facebook^[5] user Matthew Brower posted a meme that exploited the Damn Bitch, You Live Like This? template, earning over 290 likes in one month (shown below, left). Also on January 12th, Facebook^[6] user Russell Varner posted a version of the meme that exploited Kramer, What's Going On In There? earning over 240 likes in the same amount of time (shown below, right).
