We Will Adopt Your Baby refers to a photograph of a pro-life couple holding up a sign that reads, "We will adopt your baby," while protesting outside the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, offering to adopt the baby of a couple that might be considering an abortion. The photograph, along with several others showing similar signs, went viral in late June 2022, inspiring criticism, memes and photoshops making fun of the couples holding the signs and the sentiment itself.

Origin

On June 25th, 2022, Twitter[1] user @NoelleFitchett posted a photograph of a pro-life couple holding a sign with the phrase "we will adopt your baby" written on it, captioned "My favorite sign yesterday." The post gained over 133,000 likes and 16,500 retweets in three days. The photograph was taken outside the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. where pro-lifers were celebrating the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

The photograph inspired criticism and memes over the following days. On June 26th, 2022, Twitter[2] user @RonFilipkowski reposted the photo, writing, "Oddly enough, I don’t think this makes anyone feel better," gaining over 56,000 likes and 3,900 retweets in two days (shown below, left). On June 27th, Twitter[3] user @wildlytweeting posted the photo along with another photo of a couple holding a similar sign, writing, "The amount of vaguely creepy-looking white couples holding up signs that say 'Don't abort. We will adopt your baby' while more than 400,000 children are languishing in foster care in the United States tells you all you need to know about Evangelical Americans," gaining over 22,000 likes and 5,600 retweets in a day (shown below, right).

On the same day, Twitter[4] user @alexisquasar posted a screenshot of Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter from Raising Arizona captioned "we will adopt your baby," gaining over 41,000 likes in a day (shown below).

That day, Twitter[5] user @JortsTheCat posted a photoshop of the original photograph replacing the heads of the couple with cat heads and photoshopping the sign to read "We will adopt your bird," captioned "It will be fine," gaining over 116,000 likes and 13,000 retweets in a day (shown below). On the same day, Twitter[6] user @RightWingCope posted two photos of couples with the signs, writing "'We Will Adopt Your Baby' but hundreds of thousands of kids could use families in the US right now, why haven't you done it already?" gaining over 9,800 likes in a day.

The signs received support from pro-life and conservative voices online. On June 27th, Facebook[7] user Brandon Gill posted a version of the photo captioned, "BEST SIGN EVER," gaining over 16,000 shares and 84,000 reactions in a day. On June 28th, Instagram[8] user sainthoax posted a meme criticizing the holders of the signs for refusing to adopt from foster care, gaining over 21,000 likes in under a day (shown below).
