We Should Replace Oxygen With Swag is a phrase attached to an image macro of someone smoking marijuana from a bong and showing the middle finger posted to Tumblr page kushandlyrikz around 2013. The image became an exploitable in the following years with the catchphrase becoming a phrasal template used in similar image macros for its cringeworthy sentiment.

Origin

In 2013, the now-deactivated Tumblr account kushandlyrikz, an ironic page that posted memes featuring intentionally cringeworthy phrases celebrating swag, posted an image macro with the text "we should replace oxygen with swag" over an image of a kid flipping the bird and blowing smoke from his mouth after hitting a bong (shown below).

Spread

The image spread across the web over the following years. A lot of unknowing people who came across the image thought it was unironic. For example, in 2013, an image macro was uploaded to Meme Center^[1] by dadevilslaya9 using Pinhead Larry to react to the kushandlyrikz meme calling it stupid (shown below).

On April 25th, 2020, Redditor u/dujopp posted an image macro to /r/Hasan_Piker^[5] using the phrase over an image of Hasan Piker, gaining over 660 upvotes in a year (shown below).

On August 2nd, 2021, Twitter^[2] user @bartosz1707 posted an image macro using the cover of Duke Nukem with the text "we should replace covid 19 with boobs," gaining over 2,100 likes in three weeks (shown below).

On August 22nd, Gianni Matragrano posted a voiced-over version of the Duke Nukem meme to Twitter,^[3] gaining over 9,600 likes and 2,400 retweets in two days. He also posted it to YouTube,^[4] gaining over 190,000 views in a day (shown below).
