We Like Older Women is a catchphrase associated with a series of image macros and reaction images in which the phrase is shown under images of older anime women to express an attraction toward them. The original meme was posted to Tumblr in 2015 and features the catchphrase under an image of Rinko Iori from Gundam Build Fighters. The meme format became increasingly popularized over the following years as various characters were included.

Origin

As early as December 8th, 2015, according to a TinEye^[1] search, now-deactivated Tumblr user witch-lord-kyron posted an picture consisting of a fanart^[7] of Gundam character Rinko Iori followed by the caption "We like older women" (shown below). This is the earliest known user to post the meme.

Spread

The meme was popularized over the following years as a reaction image and was often posted under content featuring Rinko.^[2] The meme also inspired new variants, placing the same caption under other anime women.

On September 29th, 2020, a version of the meme was posted to the subreddit /r/Genshin_Impact^[3] that gained over 2,500 upvotes in four years (shown below, left). On November 22nd, 2021, a version of the meme was posted to /r/2hujerk^[4] that garnered over 1,100 upvotes in three years (shown below, right).

On December 22nd, 2023, X^[5] user @Blun_Z posted a version of the meme featuring an image of Frieren from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, garnering over 1,300 likes in six months (shown below).

On May 29th, 2024, X^[6] user @VeibaeVirus posted a version of the meme using four screenshots of Vtubers, garnering over 19,000 likes in a week (shown below).
