Virginia Ice Cream Trucks at Night refers to a conspiracy theory, widespread fear and hysteria of ice cream trucks allegedly spotted at night in Virginia, and other American states, related to the 80 Kids Missing In Virginia Hoax. TikTok users, among other internet users, began sharing videos of ice cream trucks operating at night and pointing out why it was seemingly creepy or dangerous.

Origin

On August 13th, 2025, TikToker^[1] @sxyballerina posted a video, allegedly taken on August 10th, of themself standing outside at night as an ice cream truck drives by, implying that the ice cream truck was being used to kidnap children in Virginia. The video received over 1 million likes in eight days (shown below).

The TikToker's video was related to the purported claim that 80 children had gone missing in Virginia in August 2025, largely spread by TikToker^[2] @mermaidmianna, who posted a since-deleted video on August 11th, in which she claimed that 30 children had gone missing in Virginia since August 1st, with no Amber Alerts warning about it.

The Virginia State Police later denied the claim in an official statement.^[3]

In the following weeks, other TikTokers shared videos of ice cream trucks operating at night in Virginia and other American states.

For instance, on August 15th, 2025, TikToker^[4] @user._23456889 shared a video of an ice cream truck at night, captioned, "Since everyone is posting about seeing ice cream trucks at night, here's this one driving through my apartment complex." The TikTok gained over 1.7 million likes in six days (shown below).

Also on August 15th, Twitter / X ^[8] user @JOKAQARMY1 reposted one of the TikTok videos about ice cream trucks operating at night in Virginia, gaining over 1,300 likes in six days (shown below).

On August 16th, Redditor Meowsku11z posted about the "bizarre case of online hysteria" to the /r/InternetMysteries^[7] subreddit, linking it to the release of the 2025 horror-thriller film Weapons.

On August 17th, 2025, TikToker^[5] @____jayrose shared a video of an ice cream truck purportedly driving at night in North Hollywood, California. The TikToker's video received over 1.5 million likes in four days (shown below).

On August 20th, TikToker^[6] @tierneydugss posted a video of herself supposedly getting asked by an ice cream truck driver to come into his truck to get free ice cream at 1 a.m., receiving over 1.8 million likes in a day (shown below).
