Origin

On January 26th, 2024, TikTok^[1] user @beautyofliyah posted a video showing the surprise her boyfriend had for her 19th birthday (shown below). In a particular moment of the video, while she was recording her bedroom filled with flowers and heart balloons, she said the line, "Victor, you actually did this," and showed the shy boyfriend holding his phone in the corner of the room. The video amassed more than 2.9 million plays and 566,000 likes in two weeks.

A few weeks after the video went viral on TikTok, some users started to replicate the boyfriend's reaction to being recorded. For example, on February 3rd, 2024, TikTok^[2] user @angelinanicole._ uploaded a parody video (shown below, left) reenacting the original video, which received over 9 million plays and 1.9 million likes in three days.
