Vector's "Hey" refers to a clip from Despicable Me in which the film's villain, Vector, introduces himself with "Hey." The clip has been used as a reaction image and is paired with captions describing unfortunate situations.
Origin
In Despicable Me, the film's villain Vector introduces himself to Gru by saying "Hey" (shown below).
On February 17th, 2020, Redditor Frosty-Firez posted the scene as a reaction image template to /r/dankmemes,[1] gaining over 84,000 points (shown below).
Spread
Over the following days, the template spread on the subreddit, with several examples gaining tens of thousands of points. For example, user Mijuzz7[2] posted an example that gained over 49,000 points (shown below, left). Normie333[3] posted an example that gained over 13,000 points (shown below, right).
The template was posted to /r/MemeEconomy[4] on February 17th as well, gaining over 180 points (shown below). The jokes were covered by StayHipp.[5]
