#ValentinesDayChallenge, also known as Oloni's Valentine's Day Challenge, is a Twitter hashtag cataloging a social game in which people message someone they are romantically interested in and ask them on a Valentine's Day date.

Origin

On February 5th, 2018, Twitter[1] user @Oloni posted the "Valentine's Day Challenge" on Twitter. She tweeted, "Ladies, ask the guy you have a crush on to be your Valentine this year & tell him you’d like to go on a date with him. Tweet me a screenshot of his response 😏" The post (shown below) received more than 4,700 retweets and 7,900 likes in three days.

Shortly after @Oloni'a initial post, people began posting success stories of the challenge. Twitter[2] user @Sisi_Tomi posted a screenshot successful ask over text message, receiving more than 390 retweets and 4,000 likes in three days (shown below, left). Some even posted that the person they looked to ask was thinking of asking them, such as the case with @JeffChangx's post[3] (shown below, center) and @FonJovi's post[4] (shown below, right).

Three days later, Twitter[5] published a Moments page regarding the challenge. Several media outlets published articles about the challenge, including Elite Daily,[6] The Independent,[7] The Daily Mail[8] and more.

2019 Revival

On February 12th, 2019, @Oloni tweeted,[9] "Ladies..who’s ready for the Valentine’s Day challenge this year? Message your crush 'I’ve had a crush on you for some time. Would you like to go on a date with me this Valentine’s Day?' Tweet me a screen shot of their response to this thread. GO!" The tweet received more than 1,100 retweets and 3,200 likes in 24 hours (shown below).

Similar to the year prior, Twitter users responded with screenshots, showcasing different responses they have received (examples below). On February 13th, 2019, Twitter[10] published a Moments page on the revival of the challenge. Additionally, Someecards[11] published a listicle on the tweets.
