About
Using Personality A With Friend Group B, also known as When I Accidentally Use Personality A With Friend Group B, is a catchphrase used in memes in which someone is dismayed that they used the wrong personality type with their current company. The meme is sometimes used in redraws with people adding their own contexts to the format, as well as an exploitable image macro template where someone asks an incorrect question intended for the opposite friend group, followed by the correct friend group asking, "How was the party?" and the OP responding "horrible."
Origin
On April 22nd, 2022, the Redditor u/Wireal[1] uploaded a screenshot from The Office to the subreddit /r/Me_Irl with the caption being about using personality number three with friend group two, earning over 3,100 likes in five months and starting the trend of using the wrong personality with the current friend group (shown below).
Spread
On August 20th, 2022, Redditor u/Profit-Alex[2] uploaded a similar meme to the /r/wholesomememes subreddit in which the person uses the wrong personality type with the current friend group, but instead of being upset by it, they find out that the friend group still likes them anyway, earning over 200 likes in two months (shown below).
On September 16th, 2022, a consistently used format was created when iFunny user PorkSword[3] uploaded an image of a man using the wrong personality type for his current friends, and then being asked how the party went by the friend group that the personality goes with. This format would later be the one used by various redraw efforts, with the punchline having various versions based on if the interaction went well or not (shown below).
