About
Usher Gojo Cosplay refers to pop artist Usher cosplaying as the Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK) character Satoru Gojo on his TikTok account. The photos, posted in January 2024, led to many memes, reactions and fan art online. Usher was likely inspired by the JJK meme that used his song "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)" in early 2023. Many speculated that Usher as Gojo could appear during the then-upcoming Super Bowl where Usher was performing the Halftime Show. Others were also notably upset that Usher spoiled vital Gojo information with his video's caption.
Origin
Starting in April 2023, TikTokers and fans of the anime / manga series Jujutsu Kaisen started posting videos about the character Satoru Gojo using Usher's song "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)"[1] as the sound[2] (examples shown below).
On September 24th, 2023, the NFL confirmed that Usher would be headlining the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show.[3] The news went viral via a tweet[4] shared by the X account @PopCrave that day, gaining over 126,000 likes in four months.
Fans of JJK then spread memes about Usher coming out as Gojo at the Halftime Show, such as TikToker[5] @m00dstar._ on September 25th, 2023, who said, "Usher transforming into gojo mid super bowl to impress us all because gojo is secretly usher," gaining over 640,800 plays and 150,300 likes (shown below).
On January 15th, 2024, Usher posted a video to his TikTok[6] that showed himself dressed as Gojo, doing Gojo's signature pose, his Unlimited Void domain expansion technique. In less than a day, the video received roughly 1.3 million plays and 448,500 likes (shown below).
Spread
Soon after Usher's post, many on TikTok reacted to the video and his cosplay. For instance, on January 15th, 2024, TikToker[7] @ogjaegerist posted a video that proclaimed it was a "good day for Gojo stans," gaining over 79,400 plays and 27,600 likes in four hours (shown below, left).
Also on January 15th, TikToker[8] @notfathermariyuh posted a video that proclaimed that Usher had spoiled Gojo's death by writing, "RIP Gojo" in his description, gaining over 209,800 plays and 68,700 likes in three hours (shown below, right).
News of Usher's Gojo cosplay also spread on Twitter / X, evident in a post shared by X[9] user @JJK_Mya on January 15th, 2024, which received over 17,000 likes in four hours (shown below).
The tweet inspired numerous replies[10] going into the following day.
