Upward Angle Frieren Drawing or Frieren Looking Up is an amateur fan art drawing of the character Frieren from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, depicting her from an upward angle, looking at the sky, with a pointed, flat and generally distorted chin and jawline. The drawing, created by Redditor SpaceDev1, was posted to the /r/Frieren subreddit in mid-November 2025 and was reposted across several subreddits by other users over the following days, going viral and inspiring memes, redraws and edits. The meme is sometimes referred to as the "Friangle" trend.
Origin
On November 12th, 2025, Redditor SpaceDev1 posted a drawing to the /r/Frieren[1] subreddit, titled "Frieren," garnering over 770 upvotes in two days. The post reads, "I practiced drawing faces in a different angle, but it looks kinda weird lol." The drawing depicts Frieren from an upward angle looking at the sky, however, her chin is drawn incorrectly, making it look pointed and flat or concave at the bottom.
Spread
On November 13th, 2025, the art was taken and reuploaded by Redditor Big-black-banana-man to the /r/animation[2] subreddit with the title, "How do you guys able to draw at different angles," garnering over 35,000 upvotes and 1,100 comments in a day.
Around the same time, the same Redditor posted the image to the /r/painting[3] subreddit with a similar title, garnering over 2,800 upvotes and 190 comments in a day. Both of these posts have since been removed by moderators.
The reposts inspired memes and edits in the comment sections of each respective post. For example, that day, Redditor ProfBubbles1[4] posted an edit of the image that adds the Navy Seal Copypasta next to Frieren, garnering around 140 upvotes in a day.
Also on November 13th, 2025, Redditor Gibbs_xx[5] posted an edit of the image adding a skull that resembles the drawing of Frieren's skull next to her head, garnering over 760 upvotes in a day.
Later that day, the original image was reuploaded to the /r/Me_IRL[6] subreddit to over 18,000 upvotes in a day.
On the same day, Redditor Bobbest_Bob posted a redraw of the image with their original character Stella to the /r/OriginalCharacter[7] subreddit that gained over 120 upvotes in a day.
Shortly after, a screenshot of the repost to /r/animation was posted to the /r/blursedimages[8] subreddit to over 30,000 upvotes in a day.
Later on November 13th, 2025, X[9] user @ChibiReviews reposted the screenshot, writing, "Blessing the timeline," garnering over 2,300 likes in a day.
The meme continued to spread, inspiring memes and art based on the image of Frieren looking up. On November 15th, X[10] user @say_nri posted a redraw of the image, writing, "I tried, but I just can’t do it," garnering over 29,000 likes in two days.
On November 16th, X[11] user @rrrroch1 posted a piece of art based on the drawing, depicting Frieren in a more exaggeratedly cartoonish manner, garnering over 60,000 likes in a day.
On November 17th, the artist behind the drawing made a post on their X[12] account, @SpaceDev1158, sharing an image of three of their artworks and a thank you message to everyone who supported the meme. The post gained over 234,000 likes in two days.
