Unusual Royal Baby Names refers to a series of joke names in response to a tweet by the English tabloid The Daily Express, who reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had chosen an "unusual name" for their newborn.
Origin
On May 5th, 2019, the Daily Express tweeted,[1] "Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to choose UNUSUAL name for baby that UNIFIES the US and UK." The tweet received more than 690 retweets, 3,700 likes and 7,400 comments, making it the subject of a Twitter Ratio (shown below).
Spread
Following the post, people began retweeting the article with joke names for the child that would mockingly unite American and English people. Comedian Josh Gondelman tweeted, "Welcome to the world, young Fuck Off, Piers Morgan." The tweet[2] received more than 4,000 retweets and 32,000 likes in 24 hours (shown below, left).
Twitter[3] user @BobbyBigWheel tweeted,[3] "Prince We Fucked Up In 2016." The tweet received more than 350 retweets and 2,800 likes in 24 hours (shown below, center).
Throughout the day, others shared joke name (example below, right).
