Typa Shit I Been On, also known as Typa Shi I Been On, Type of Shit I Been On, Type Shit I Been On, Typa Shit I Been On Recently or Typa Shit I Been On Lately, is a catchphrase used to caption image macros which portray what type of mood the meme creator's in or what type of activities the meme creator's been doing lately. The phrase is mostly used to caption Pics That Go Hard, portraying the meme creator as unbothered and cool. Any image macro or character can be paired with the phrase though, leading to mass usage across social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, among others. The phrase was first used on Twitter in mid-2022.

Origin

Sometime before August 15th, 2022, a currently unknown Twitter user posted a photo of a tiger oil painting^[1] with the caption, "the typa shit i've been on." The earliest known copycat of the tweet was posted on August 15th, 2022, by Twitter^[2] user @Heartsiiii. On August 16th, 2022, Twitter^[3] user @sapphicsuicides used the catchphrase with a different image macro. On August 17th, 2022, Instagram^[4] user @hellokittypoggers400 posted a poorly-cropped and moldy version of the image, gaining over 460 likes in eight months. Also on August 17th, 2022, Instagram^[5] user @milkshake.mp3 uploaded a video that added music to a better-cropped version of the image, gaining roughly 3,400 views and 1,000 likes in eight months (shown below). The image also surfaced on iFunny ^[6] and TikTok^[7] in late August 2022.

Spread

Following the spread of the aforementioned meme, variant uses of the catchphrase surfaced online. For instance, on August 26th, 2022, Instagram^[8] user @empath_bussy posted an exploited version of the tweet showing a wolf, earning over 180 likes in eight months (shown below, left). On September 6th, 2022, Twitter^[9] user @midsmoker11 tweeted a version of the phrase, gaining roughly 5,900 likes in seven months (shown below, right).

On September 25th, 2022, TikToker^[10] @mimofrl posted a photo slideshow that followed the Wizardposting trend. The slideshow's primary photo had Algospeak text reading, "the typa $hit i been on" (shown below, left), and over the course of seven months, the photos received roughly 303,800 plays and 54,600 likes. More TikTokers started using the TikTok^[11] sound created by @mimofrl for memes using the catchphrase. For instance, on October 2nd, TikToker^[12] @will.arana posted a slideshow using paintings of ancient Aztecs, gaining roughly 464,700 likes in six months (primary photo shown below, right).

Viral videos also started using the catchphrase, such as a video posted by TikToker^[13] @rackracer_hass on November 25th, 2023, that captioned a video of rapper Matt Ox with the phrase, gaining roughly 5.1 million plays and 989,700 likes in five months (shown below).

The phrase continued to receive viral usage in early 2023. For instance, on April 5th, 2023, Twitter^[14] user @ImSmilingRn captioned an image of a realistic Brian Griffin from Family Guy with, "typa shit i been on recently," gaining roughly 9,800 likes in two weeks (shown below).

The tweet was screenshotted and posted elsewhere, going viral on Instagram^[15] in April 2023.
