On May 14th, 2014, XXL magazine posted a video of Ty Dolla $ign's Freshman Freestyle to their YouTube[1] channel, gathering over 800,000 views in ten years (seen below).

Spread

The video was reposted to X / Twitter on April 7th, 2024, by X[2] user @ShottaSV. The original post gathered over 8,000 likes in almost two months and sparked reactions and memes in subsequent weeks. For instance, on April 8th, X[3] user @fortunetellaaa quoted the video with a comment on Ty Dolla $ign's hairline, saying that his "forehead just kept going we aint see a hairline once," and gathering over 100,000 likes in two months (seen below).

On April 23rd, the Instagram[4] page @pastor.flacc posted an edit of the video that turned Ty Dolla's freestyle into an old-timey black-and-white silent film, gathering over 800 likes in a month (seen below).

On May 22nd, 2024, X[5] user @husbandu posted an edit in the style of Apple Music's 100 Best Albums list, gathering over 48,000 likes in a week (seen below).

On May 27th, 2024, R&B artist Steve Lacy posted a video parodying Ty Dolla's freestyle to his Instagram stories, as seen in a repost to X (shown below).
