TV On HDMI 2 With Nothing Plugged In refers to a series of memes and skits in which someone is suspicious after arriving at a person's house for a hookup to find their TV set to "HDMI 2" with nothing plugged into the HDMI 2 slot, the presumption being that they had someone over at the house, potentially another hookup, who plugged their gaming console into the TV when they were over and then unplugged it when they left. The meme was popularized on TikTok in August 2023 and inspired several viral examples over the following months, spreading to other social media sites like Reddit in early 2024.
Origin
On August 23rd, 2023, TikToker[1] @sunnystoktik posted a video to the "Someone Cooked Here" audio in which she films herself with a shocked expression under the caption, "When u walk into the bi curious girl's apartment and there are backwood guts in the ashtray and her TV is on HDMI 2," garnering over 600,000 views in six months (shown below). The caption is meant to express the girl's suspicions that the girl had someone else in her apartment before she got there, who had a console plugged into HDMI 2 and then unplugged it when they left.

Memes using the same joke became increasingly popularized over the following months. On September 27th, 2023, TikToker[2] @hutchbucketz posted a video using the same joke, garnering over 4 million views in five months (shown below, left). On December 24th, TikToker[3] @archxvs posted a version of the meme that gained over 1.5 million views in two months (shown below, right).
On January 18th, 2024, TikToker[4] @skclips0 posted a version of the meme that gained over 1.8 million views in a month (shown below).
On January 22nd, 2024, Instagram[5] user hoodclipsofficials posted an image macro version of the meme, garnering over 22,000 likes in a month (shown below). On February 11th, X[6] user @MeninistTweet posted a version of the meme that gained over 3,000 likes in four days.
