TV Characters on Jordan Election Posters and Jordan Homelander refer to a series of photoshopped election posters from the Arabic and Middle Eastern country Jordan showing male TV characters running for office in the upcoming Jordanian elections. The original iteration that went viral on Reddit and Twitter / X showed The Boys character Homelander (actor Antony Starr). Subsequent iterations featured other The Boys characters like Billy Butcher (Karl Urban). As the images and photographs went viral, people spoofed them by adding other iconic male TV characters like Walter White from Breaking Bad and Tony Soprano from The Sopranos (among others).

Origin

On August 16th, 2024, a since-deleted Redditor^[1] posted images to the subreddit /r/jordan with a caption reading, "محتار لمين اصوت يجماعة," translating to, "I'm confused who to vote for, guys," in English. The post was deleted in the following days but likely included the original photoshop of The Boys character Homelander on an election poster for the upcoming Jordanian election, per Google Image search results that link the image (shown below). Other Reddit^[2] posts in the following days linked the /r/jordan post.

The Homelander meme was seemingly making fun of posters of Jordanian politician Khaled Musa Issa Abu Hassan,^[10] per a meme shared by Redditor^[8] mmm545 to /r/jordan on August 13th, 2024, that showed a political poster for the politician in the Everywhere I Go, I See His Face meme template (shown below, left).

Days later, on August 18th, Redditor^[9] halawani98 posted a meme to /r/jordan that followed the same format, using the Jordanian Homelander image (shown below, right).

Spread

On August 17th, 2024, X^[3] user @ExtremeBlitz__ tweeted the Jordanian Homelander poster, writing, "wtf going on in jordan," receiving over 115,000 likes in two days (shown below, left).

Later on August 17th, X^[4] user @ExtremeBlitz__ quoted to their tweet with crudely photoshopped photos of the poster hung up on poles, writing, "everywhere I go, I see his face," receiving roughly 57,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).

The abovementioned crudely photoshopped photos were first shared by Redditor^[5] iisuperosama to /r/jordan hours earlier on August 17th, 2024, gaining over 90 upvotes in two days (shown below).

Redditors on /r/jordan and Arabic-speaking X users began making iterations with other TV characters in the following days. For instance, on August 18th, 2024, X^[6] user @kkkareemz posted one with actor Ryan Gosling, receiving over 16,000 likes in a day (shown below, left).

Also on August 18th, X^[7] user @tylerdadurden shared one with Tony Soprano from The Sopranos, earning over 19,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).
