Turgle is a frog-like character from the video game Star Wars: Jedi Survivor introduced on the planet Koboh. Turgle became a fan-favorite character following the game's release on April 28th, 2023, inspiring fan art and memes about him.
Origin
Turgle was first seen in the story trailer for Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, posted to YouTube[1] on March 20th, 2023, garnering over 4.7 million views in just over a month (shown below).
The character became the subject of reactions shortly after the release of the trailer. For example, on that day, Twitter[2] user @Ky1eKatarn posted a screenshot from the trailer, writing, "new glup shitto just dropped," garnering over 1,700 likes in just over a month (shown below). The character was also given a Wookiepedia[3] page that day.
Spread
On April 26th, 2023, Prima Games[4] published an article about the character, titled, "Star Wars Jedi Survivor’s Little Frog Man Turgle Steals The Show." That day, Twitter[5] user @merrittk posted a screenshot of the article, writing, "This sounds like something I'd make up. Turgle the frog man," garnering over 2,200 likes in six days. On April 27th, YouTuber GET REKT posted a video of the first interaction with Turgle in the game (shown below).
That day, Instagram[6] user lady_tea posted a piece of fan art of the character, garnering over 6,900 likes in five days (shown below, left). On May 1st, Polygon[7] published an article titled, "I would die to protect Turgle in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor." That day, Turgle's voice actor, Richard Horvitz, posted on Twitter,[8] "I am so proud to be a part of Star Wars cannon after so many years. And I am so very touched by all the fan love for this little guy🙏❤️ I Am Turgle!" garnering over 11,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).
Later that day, Twitter[9] user @camandfilm posted a photoshop of Turgle arriving at the MET Gala, garnering over 3,900 likes in a day (shown below).
