Turbo Virgin

Turbo Virgin refers to a reaction image featuring the character from the Japanese anime comedy series My Girlfriend is a Gal (Japanese translation: はじめてのギャル), also known as Hajimete no Gal. In the image, the character Junichi Hashiba says, "You might have tricked a normal virgin, but I'm a turbo virgin with zero confidence," a misquote from the series. Online, people use the image to ironically express feelings of sexual or romantic inadequacy.

Origin

The anime My Girlfriend is a Gal ran from July 12th, 2017 to September 13th, 2017. In episode one, which aired on July 12th, 2017, the character Junichi says, "A normal virgin would have fall into your trap, but I'm a virgin with no self-confidence at all" (GIF below).^[1]

Spread

Later that year, on November 10th, 2017, Redditor Coke_Addict04 shared the image in the /r/meirl ^[2] subreddit. The post received more than 8,700 points (95% upvoted) and 80 comments in less than four years (shown below, left).

The following year, on August 12th, 2018, Redditor Dr3ss3dPlatypus shared an edited version of the meme in the /r/PewdiepieSubmissions^[3] that reads, "You might have tricked a normal virgin, but I'm a turbo virgin with zero confidence." The post received more than 240 points (97% upvoted) in less than three years (shown below, center).

On December 12th, 2019, Redditor V1vir shared the meme in response to a Greentext Story in the /r/comedyhomicide^[4] subreddit. The post received more than 1,400 points (96% upvoted) in less than one year (shown below, right).
