About
Tsundere Shark is a photoshop meme in which photographs and illustrations of sharks are embellished with pink blushes and glowing anime eyes in the typical fashion of how tsundere characters are portrayed in animes.
Origin
The earliest known instance of Tsundere Shark was submitted by Tumblr user m0x3 on February 21st, 2013.[1] As of April 2015, the image has garnered more than 10,000 notes.
Spread
The /r/tsunderesharks subreddit was created in December of 2013, which commands over 30,000 subscribers as of April 2015.[2] In addition, the meme continued to spread on Tumblr, reaching a high level of popularity there since as early as October 2014. Months later, in February 2015, the online interest in tsundere sharks was reinvigorated when Katy Perry integrated sharks into her Superbowl XLIX performance. That same day, at least two posts referencing the meme were submitted to /r/tsunderesharks, including one featuring a photo of Katy Perry's shark[3] (without the Tsundere additions) earned over 1200 points.
