Trunks "They Call Me The Drink," or Niggas Call Me "The Drink," refers to a series of memes in which Trunks from Dragon Ball is referred to as "The Drink." Trunks was first referred to as "The Drink" by YouTuber kobyshinobi in a December 2023 video, which claims he is called that in reference to his fashion. The nickname was further popularized throughout 2024 through memes referring to Trunks as such. The meme is inspired by the niggas call me 'the sandwich' meme.

Origin

On December 17th, 2023, YouTuber^[1] kobyshinobi posted a video in which images of various Dragon Ball characters appear on the screen, each captioned with a different nickname, formatted, "Niggas call me the X." At 0:04, Trunks is shown on-screen captioned, "Niggas call me the drink." The video gained over 398,000 views in nine months.

The video's description offers an explanation of why he's called "the drink," claiming it refers to his "dripped out" fashion, reading:

Trunks is the drink. When you order a drink from a restaurant, it's a given that it comes with ice, whether it comes in a paper cup or a glass cup. Aside from that jewelry flex, that ice makes the cup very cold. This causes the water vapor molecules in the air surrounding the outside of the cup to condense and become liquid, forming droplets that can drip down the sides of the cup, the operative word here being "drip". This is a flex about fashion sense and having the wealth to dress to impress. Let's be real, there's hardly anyone else in Dragon Ball that can claim to be anywhere near as dripped up as Trunks in any of his appearances, guy wears his mom's jackets and still looks clean.

The nickname gained viral spread over the following months. On December 22nd, 2023, several commenters referred to the nickname in a post on /r/Dragonballsuper^[2] asking users to describe Trunks. On May 26th, 2024, YouTuber^[3] kobyshinobi posted a video continuing the meme, consisting of a song parody of Ice Spice's "Think U the Shit (Fart)" called "The Drink (Cup)," garnering over 390,000 views in four months.

On June 21st, the same YouTuber^[4] uploaded a longer version of the song, garnering over 800,000 views in three months.

On July 2nd, a now-deleted Redditor made a post to /r/Ningen^[5] sharing an image macro referring to Trunks as "The Drink," asking, "Can anyone explain to me in simple terms why they call him THE DRINK?" garnering over 2,500 upvotes in two months.

On September 3rd, X^[6] user @Bojack198 posted, in response to a video of Trunks fighting Vegeta in the video game Dragon Ball Fighter Z, "THEY CALL HIM THE DRINK." On September 4th, X^[7] user @Mettalix_ posted a screenshot of the post, along with another from a user asking what "the drink" means, garnering over 14,000 likes in six days.

On September 7th, X^[8] user @funnyhoodvidss posted an image of photorealistic Trunks artwork, writing, "'Ayo bruh can you pass the drink?' How I be lookin at gang:" garnering over 29,000 likes in three days.

On September 9th, X^[9] user @BeatnikBlades posted a version of the "This Is Where I Watched My Parents Die, Raphael" meme featuring a reference to "The Drink," garnering over 67,000 likes in a day.

Niggas Call Me "The Sandwich" refers to a meme showing a black-and-white photo of Former U.S. President Donald Trump with a top Impact font caption reading the aforementioned catchphrase. The meaning of the nickname "The Sandwich" is unknown and is likely nonsensical. The first discovered posting of the meme was on iFunny in 2021.
