On October 1st, 2024, presidential candidate Donald Trump made a post on X^[1] encouraging North Carolina residents to vote and encouraging people to like the post for voting updates, writing, "North Carolina: Get ready to vote! LIKE this post to get IMPORTANT election reminders in North Carolina. Whether you vote early or in-person on Election Day -- have a plan and make sure you VOTE!" The post garnered over 148,000 likes in two days. X users who liked the post were tagged in automated posts made by the @RealDonaldTrump X page thanking them for liking the post and offering them to reply "stop" to stop getting updates about the election.

Over the next few days, the posts from @RealDonaldTrump replying to individual users became the subject of reactions and memes.

For example, on October 2nd, 2024, X^[2] user @TopSecretNoam posted a Photoshop of one of the thank you posts in which Trump's account responds to someone with a username filled with slurs, garnering over 11,000 likes in a day.

Later that day, leftist political commentary streamer Hasan Piker received a thank you post from Trump's X^[3] account, garnering over 11,000 likes in a day. Piker quote-reposted^[4] the post, writing, "THANK YOU SIR FOR RECOGNIZING A REAL PATRIOT!!!!" garnering over 74,000 likes in a day.

Later that same day, X^[5] user @greg16676935420 quote-reposted his personalized thank you post from Trump, garnering over 34,000 likes in the same span of time.
