Triple Dog Death Barrage or YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH!! is a series of copypasta memes popularized on X (Twitter) in which three images of an animal, originally a dog, are posted along with a variation of the phrasal template, "YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!「トリプルドッグデスバラージ」TRIPLE DOG DEATH BARRAGE!!!" The original meme was posted to X in August 2023 and inspired variations over the following months, with "dog" sometimes being replaced with another animal.

Origin

On August 13th, 2023, X^[1] user @drakerectiongif responded to a now-deleted post, the contents of which are unclear, with three images of a dog lunging to bite, writing, "YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!「トリプルドッグデスバラージ」(TRIPLE DOG DEATH BARRAGE!!!)," garnering over 3,900 likes in seven months (shown below). The Japanese text translates to "triple dog death barrage."

Spread

The meme gained viral spread over the following months, becoming the subject of memes as a copypasta and phrasal template, with the images and caption often changed to represent a different animal. On August 23rd, 2023, Instagram^[2] user surreal.cats posted a version of the meme using images of a cat, garnering over 66,000 likes in seven months (shown below, left). On September 12th, X^[3] user @daily_sisyphus posted a version of the meme referencing Sisyphus, garnering over 3,100 likes in six months (shown below, right).

On September 26th, Instagram^[4] user qooslag posted a version of the meme using images of a bird, garnering over 15,000 likes in six months (shown below). On October 13th, X^[5] user @bnnuyrabbit posted a version of the meme that gained over 1,000 likes in five months.

On February 12th, 2024, X^[6] user @h8rnxt posted a version of the meme using Roblox images, garnering over 1,300 likes in a month (shown below, left).

On March 25th, X^[7] user @drakebonergif posted the original meme, writing, "white people will look at shit like this and burst into a fit of laughter," garnering over 48,000 likes in a day. The next day, the user revealed through a comment^[8] that they created the original "triple dog death brigade" meme, writing that the most recent post was "a social experiment," garnering over 3,100 likes in under a day (shown below, right).
