About

Triggered Neckbeard or Heheh, I'm So Edgy is an exploitable meme format based on a two-panel webcomic in which a neckbeard makes an edgy comment aiming to offend a target and is met with another edgy comment that runs counter to the neckbeard's beliefs or narrative, followed by the neckbeard getting triggered and scolding the person. The meme was originally posted online as early as May 2020 to the /r/TheRightCantMeme subreddit, spreading over the following years and inspiring edits that alter the original's context. The meme is often used alongside other memes that look to point out the hypocrisy of people who make edgy jokes, for example, the Dark Humor MFs When meme.

Origin

On May 3rd, 2020, a now-deleted Redditor posted a meme to the /r/TheRightCantMeme[1] subreddit that gained over 130 upvotes in five years. It is unclear if the Redditor created the meme or reposted it from elsewhere.

In the top panel of the meme, an atheist neckbeard says with a smirk, "Hail Satan. Heheh, I'm so edgy." A person across from him does a Nazi salute and says, "Haha, heil Hitler," attempting to make an edgy joke back at the neckbeard. In the second panel, we see a close-up of the neckbeard's angry face as he yells, "Don't you know how insensitive you're being when you joke like that? Do you understand what Hitler stood for? You're perpetuating toxic ideas to other people whether you realize it or not."
