Travis Scott Fish or Trafish Scott refers to several images of fish that, in memes, are used to represent rapper Travis Scott due to their perceived vague similarities in appearance. The first known meme to compare Travis Scott to a fish was posted to Reddit in later 2019, with further examples going viral over the following years, including an image of a Napoleon fish staring forward with dreadlocks and a chain photoshopped onto it.
Origin
On November 27th, 2019, a now-deleted Redditor posted an image macro of a fish with grillz captioned "Trafish Scott" to /r/Hiphopcirclejerk,[1] garnering over 280 upvotes in four years (shown below, left). This is the earliest known meme to compare Scott to a fish. On January 7th, 2020, another Redditor posted a meme to /r/travisscott[2] comparing the rapper to a Napoleon fish, garnering over 520 upvotes in three years (shown below, right). This became the most common fish to be compared to Scott going forward.
Spread
On July 2nd, 2020, private Facebook[3] page SKRT posted a fake Travis Scott tweet where he posts a version of the same Napoleon fish with dreads and a chain photoshopped onto it, reading, "Stop sending me this shit," garnering over 22,000 reactions and 18,000 shares in three years (shown below). The image gained viral spread online. On July 12th, a Redditor posted the isolated image of the fish to /r/travisscott,[4] garnering over 490 upvotes in three years.
On August 12th, 2021, Instagram[5] user hypefitts posted a meme using the same fish along with a photoshop of a SpongeBob fish made to resemble Travis Scott, garnering over 7,300 likes in two years (shown below).
The meme became increasingly popular on TikTok throughout 2022. For example, on March 6th, 2022, TikToker[6] @femboy.pcs posted a video stitching the fish after a video of someone cutting up a fish, garnering over 2.2 million views in a year (shown below, left). On May 19th, TikToker[7] @intelcope posted a similar video, garnering over 211,000 views in a year (shown below, right).
