Travis Scott Burger refers to a series of memes and jokes about the "Travis Scott Meal" (also referred to as the "Cactus Jack meal" along with the catchphrase "Cactus Jack Sent Me"), a promotion by the fast-food restaurant McDonald's endorsed by rapper Travis Scott. These jokes focus on the look of the burger and the potential buyers of the "Cactus Jack," particularly young white boys in Supreme clothing.

Origin

Discussion about Travis Scott's participation in a McDonald's promotion began in August 2020. On August 12th, 2020, Facebook [1] group @Astrohypee posted a photograph of a McDonald's track jacket, a hat that reads "McCactus" and a pair McDonald's themed Nike Air Force 1 shoes. They captioned the image, "Travis Scott X McDonald's 🍟." The post received more than 27,000 shares, 9,600 reactions and 2,000 comments in less than one month (shown below).



On August 20th, 2020, Business Insider confirmed rumors. That day, Business Insider writer Kate Taylor tweeted,[2] "McDonald's is doing a collaboration with Travis Scott, as the chain aims to win over 'youthful multicultural customers'" (shown below, left).

Days later, on August 24th, Twitter[3] @Certified4PF responded to a tweet about the collaboration with "wtf are they gonna do together a travis scott burger ? 💀" This is the earliest known usage of the phrase "travis scott burger" (shown below, right).

On September 3rd, 2020, McDonald's tweeted[4] "Cactus Jack is coming / The @trvisXX Meal drops 9/8." Thet tweet received more than 80,000 likes and 13,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below). They also clarified that the meal consisted of Quarter Pounder with lettuce, pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard, and bacon, Medium Fries dipped in BBQ Sauce, Sprite."



That day, people began posting images of white boys wearing supreme ordering the burger. For example, Twitter[5] user @planetlen tweeted, “we’ll all have the travis scott burger please.” The tweet received more than 167,000 likes and 27,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below, left).

McDonald's began the promotion on September 8th, inspiring more jokes about the meal. Twitter[6] user @Freddychini tweeted, "Can i get a travis scott burger with extra slime- i mean sauce. Sorry I’m sicko mode right now hahaha, anyways hold the apple pie because I DONT WANT YOUR APPLE PIE MAMA hahahaha i hope there were no bystanders to see that." The tweet received more than 134,000 likes and 24,000 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, center).

On the /r/travisscott, Redditor[7] RaMMy96 shared a picture of their empty hand and the caption "Holding the Travis Scott burger in EU be like." The post received more than 2,700 points (99% upvoted) in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).



That day, Twitter user @RodeoTheAlbum tweeted, "Travis Scott McDonald’s commercial
French fries." The tweet received more than 2 million views, 105,000 likes and 27,000 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below).

Additionally, that day, YouTuber TheReportOfTheWeek reviewed the meal. The post received more than 600,000 views and reached YouTube's top trending charts (shown below).

Several media outlets covered the burger, including USA Today,[8] Vulture,[9] Complex[10] and more.
