Touch Meme is an exploitable meme format with which artists color in sections of four blank people with specific colors that show where it is okay for strangers, friends, family and partners to touch them. Versions of the meme have been spreading online since as early as 2015, with some of the earliest examples of the meme being uploaded to Fur Affinity that year. The meme became increasingly popularized over the following years, with the dominant format of four blank people becoming the most prevalent version.

Origin

It is unclear who started the touch meme. The earliest known example of a similar meme format was posted on February 27th, 2015, by Fur Affinity^[1] user crazypredator, in which a furry character is colored in three times according to how they would want to be touched by strangers, friends and "Bandini." It is unlikely that this is the first example of the meme. Several other versions of the meme were uploaded to furry communities like Fur Affinity^[2] and Weasly^[3] that year.

Spread

The meme continued to spread among online artists. By October 2016, a solid format featuring four blank Gacha-like characters made to fill in to represent desired touches started going around. On October 3rd, 2016, DeviantArt^[4] user Monden posted a blank version of the meme, although they did not create it.

The format inspired many examples over the following years, including memes that purposely reinterprate the idea of the meme.

2025 Popularity

On July 9th, 2025, X^[5] user @wuzerxx posted a version of the meme, writing, "OOMFIES DROP YOURS!!" garnering over 2,800 likes in two days. That day, X^[6] user @jackinmyween posted a version coloring the characters in like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, garnering over 1,900 likes in two days.

On July 10th, X^[7] user @FayelovesZali posted another version of the meme referencing TMNT that gained over 59,000 likes in a day.

Also on July 10th, 2025, X^[8] user @Distractophile posted a version of the meme where they draw the members of Your Favorite Martian over the characters, garnering over 1,000 likes in a day.
