TL;DR Wikipedia is a single topic blog which offers Wikipedia summaries on a wide range of topical subjects that have been edited in a humorously succinct manner, usually to the length of one or two sentences, in the spirit of the well-known Internet adage TL;DR.
Origin
The Tumblr blog TL;DR Wikipedia[1] was launched on March 13th, 2014, with its first post featuring a screenshot of a humorously terse Wikipedia article for Wikipedia itself (shown below).
Spread
On March 15th, the @tldrwikipedia[7] Twitter feed was created, which accumulated more than 11,400 followers over the next five months. On April 13th, Redditor esiedlecki submitted an Imgur album of TL;DR Wikipedia images to the /r/funny[6] subreddit, where it gained over 3,400 votes (88% upvoted) in the first four months. On April 15th, 2014, BuzzFeed[2] highlighted several notable TL;DR Wikipedia example images. The same day, Mashable[3] published an article about the Tumblr blog. On the following day, the Internet news blog Laughing Squid[5] featured several notable examples. On April 19th, the "TL;DR Wikipedia" Facebook[4] page was launched, which gathered upwards of 10,400 likes in the next four months. In the coming months, additional Internet news and humor sites highlighted notable examples from the Tumblr blog, including io9,[8] CollegeHumor[9] and UpRoxx.[10]
