Time Travel: Is Invented and Men With a Time Machine refer a series of Girls vs. Boys memes that humorously compare imaginary scenarios in which women and men get access to a time machine. The jokes commonly utilize Soyjaks vs. Chads and Running Arnold Schwarzenegger meme formats.
Origin
On July 2nd, 2020, Redditor[1] Korina-chan posted a Harambe / Running Arnold Schwarzenegger Girls vs. Boys meme which that humorously compared supposed behaviors of girls and boys in a scenario when time travel gets invented. The post received over 20,500 upvotes in /r/dankmemes in one month (shown below).
Spread
In July, Running Arnold Schwarzenegger memes about time travel imagining boys warning various historical figures about their assassinations or other unfortunate events gained moderate spread on Reddit and Facebook. For example, on July 18th, Redditor[2] Bergen01 reposted a meme about the assassination of Julius Caesar (shown below, left) that received over 5,100 upvotes prior to being removed. On the same day, Facebook[3] page Rappers In Peculiar Places posted a meme about Chief Keef that received over 2,400 reactions and 790 shares in one months (shown below, right).
On August 1st, 2020, Redditor[4] Soviet_yakut posted a Soyjaks vs. Chads / Girls vs. Boys meme about time travel that received over 13,200 upvotes in twelve days (shown below).
The subformat did not see further spread until on August 10th, Redditor[5] bluefan99 posted another meme based on it to /r/HistoryMemes, where it received over 3,100 upvotes prior to being removed (meme shown below). On the same day, Redditor[6] GlukGluk213 reposted the meme to /r/dankmemes, where it received over 18,100 upvotes in three days.
The post prompted further spread of Soyjak vs. Chads / Girls vs. Boys memes about time travel on Reddit and Twitter. For example, on August 11th, 2020, PewDiePie's video editor Sive[7] posted a meme about the N-Word Bridge that received over 7,100 retweets and 87,600 likes in two days.
