About
TikTok Streaks refers to a TikTok feature that indicates how continuously and regularly two people have messaged each other on the platform by showing an ember emoji beside the conversation. In May 2024, the feature was the subject of image macro memes in which people posted content about their level of TikTok streaks and reminders to share with friends so they don't lose their streaks.
Origin
Rumors about TikTok replicating Snapchat streaks started in mid-April 2024, as user @_annabella21p[1] posted on April 17th, 2024, via a video (shown below) captioned, "Nobody talking about how TikTok has streaks now?" The video amassed more than 183,000 plays and 4,300 likes in three months. According to a Tech Runch[2] website report from June 6th, TikTok confirmed that it is testing the feature in limited markets and select users.
Spread
In early June 2024, memes about maintaining TikTok Streaks with friends were popularized in the format of ironic image macros on the video platform. For instance, on June 5th, 2024, TikTok[3] user @def.not.lara.l posted an image of two sharks captioned "send this to someone for your streak 🔥." The post (seen below, left) received more than 5 million plays and 604,000 likes in a week.
On the same day, TikTok[4] user @user1234567891020100 posted a picture of a man smiling alongside photoshopped Tiktok streaks examples, captioning it "send this to your friend for your streak boost." The post (seen below, right) garnered roughly 3 million plays and 273,000 likes in a week.
