Tidus' Laugh

Tidus' Laugh is a forced laugh uttered by Final Fantasy X protagonist Tidus. Online, the scene is (in)famous in and and outside the Final Fantasy fandom, is primarily utilized as a tool of ironic humor, and is considered an example of poor English. It has inspired a series of remix videos and parodies that are composed with Tidus' laugh.

Origin

The laugh originates from the 2001 Playstation 2 video game, Final Fantasy X. In a sad moment of the game, the character Yuna asks to hear Tidus' laugh, and he performs a forced fit of laughter. As Final Fantasy X was the first in the series to feature full voice acting, the scene appears in both the Japanese and English releases.

Almost as soon as the release of Final Fantasy X the laughing scene has often been ridiculed, questioned, and misunderstood.^[1] Throughout the years, the scene remained fairly exclusive within the Final Fantasy community, with only few edits appearing around in the late 2000's and early 2010's.

A resurgence of popularity regarding the Tidus laugh began around 2015, with various successful remixes of Tidus' laugh appearing in YTPMV's.

Following the slow resurgence of Tidus' laugh, on March 23, 2016, James Arnold Tyler, the English voice actor of Tidus, explains how the laugh came to be.The video currently has over 100,000 views.

Tidus Fantasy X

With a sudden influx of Tidus Laugh remixes, on September 8, 2016, modder Johnny Mac released Tidus Fantasy X, a mod which replaces the entire Final Fantasy X soundtrack and Tidus' dialogue with his English laugh, to the appraisal of the community.^[2]
