On May 6th, 2022, NBC DFW[1] published a story claiming a woman, 40-year-old Augustine Gladney, was arrested in Fort Worth for throwing her ex-boyfriend's mother's ashes into Lake Worth. According to the report, her boyfriend, Ernest Smith, discovered that the urn containing his mom's ashes was missing that prior Monday and contacted the police to report Gladney (mugshot shown below).

He Cheated So I Threw His Mom Ashes In The River

On June 3rd, 2022, TikToker[2] @starringsaraa posted a video showing a woman standing on a bridge with an urn, captioned, "He cheated so I threw his mom ashes in the river." In the video she approaches the edge of the bridge and pours the ashes off the side then drops the empty urn into the water. The video gained over 6.2 million views in four days (shown below). This video is purportedly fake and staged.

The video went viral through reposts over the following days with many thinking it was real, inspiring reactions shortly after. On June 3rd, 2022, it was reposted to Twitter[3] by @Mahjinbootie, writing, "Call me what you want! But I hope shorty gets cheated on for the rest of her natural born life!," gaining over 34,000 likes, 7.2 million views and 5,000 retweets in four days. On June 4th, TikToker[4] @tillary.clinton stitched the video suggesting alternatives to throwing his mom's ashes in the lake, like keying his car or breaking his PlayStation, gaining over 2.2 million views in three days (shown below).

On June 5th, YouTuber[5] Optimus posted a video about the incident, going over the video and its responses, gaining over 128,000 views in two days (shown below).
