This Is Homeschooling or This Is Homeschool is a TikTok trend in which users parody a viral video of a homeschooled kindergarten boy tilling a garden, the caption explaining how he told his mother he wanted to learn how to "successfully transplant a variety of native plants without them dying," the caption ending with the phrase, "This is homeschooling." The original video became the subject of mockery, with many not believing a kindergartener would make the captioned request, inspiring comments similar to the woke toddler and that happened memes under the video and parody videos with similar captions that end in "this is homeschooling."

Origin

On September 3rd, 2023, TikToker^[1] @leafandlearn posted a video of her son tilling a garden plot. The caption reads, "I asked him what he wanted to accomplish in 'Kindergarten' and he said he wanted to learn how to successfully transplant a variety of native plants without them dying, and also get really good at chess. So, that's what we're doing. This is homeschooling." The video gained over 4.5 million views in two days (shown below).

Some of the top comments under the video are ironic comments parodying the video's caption, suggesting they don't believe that her son actually made the request, or at least not as eloquently as written (examples shown below).

The video inspired TikTokers to post videos parodying it. On September 4th, 2023, TikToker^[2] @joyteon posted a parody that gained over 3.3 million views in a day (shown below, left). On the same day, TikToker^[3] @.presro posted a parody that gained over 4.1 million views in the same span of time (shown below, right).

That day, TikToker^[4] @problyfake posted a parody of the video using footage of their cat, garnering over 400,000 views in a day (shown below).
