This Ain't It, Chief is a slang phrase used in forums as a way to tell the poster that the thing they posted isn't as cool as they think. The phrase is used in a similar friendly-but-insulting way as Imma Keep It Real With U Chief.

Origin

The phrase started becoming popular in the summer of 2018. An early example was posted by the meme page Sonny Side Up on July 1st (shown below).



The phrase was added to Urban Dictionary on July 27th, 2018[1] (shown below).

Over the summer of 2018, the phrase was popularly used as a means to mock something or troll the prior poster for their statement. A popular example of the phrase was tweeted in an ASCII calculator by @gothstepdad on July 10th, gaining over 270 retweets and 1,100 likes (shown below, left). User @desusnice used the phrase describing a recent song by R. Kelly, gaining over 2,400 retweets and 9,700 likes (shown below, right).



On Reddit, popular posts to feature the phrase include a post on /r/Overwatchmemes mocking Genji and Ready Player One, gaining over 670 points (shown below, left). Another on /r/travisscott gained over 100 points (shown below, right). The phrase was asked about on /r/OutOfTheLoop[2] on July 31st, 2018.
