Thicc Grinch

About

Thicc Grinch or BBL Grinch refers to a number of images of The Grinch and people in Grinch costumes with a comically large or thicc butt. The most prominent thicc Grinch image is a photograph of a person in a Grinch costume with their hands on their hips standing at what appears to be a public Christmas event that went viral in December 2021 as people joked about the Grinch "stealing thickness" and getting a BBL (Brazillian butt lift) and used the image as an exploitable meme.

Origin

There are numerous images of thicc versions of the Grinch that are prominent online. In December 2018, for example, an image of a thicc Grinch from the back started going viral on Twitter^[8] in jokes about his large butt (example shown below). Buzzfeed^[9] published an article documenting this on December 17th, 2018.

On December 6th, 2021, Twitter^[1] user @NMJMRedux posted a photograph of someone in a Grinch costume from the back, their hands on their hips, the costume featuring a clearly oversized butt (shown below). The post is captioned "How the Grinch Stole Thickness," a play on the film title "How The Grinch Stole Christmas." It gained over 294,000 likes and 40,000 retweets in two days.

Spread

The image was reposted to Twitter with new captions over the course of the following days, going viral numerous times. On December 6th, 2021, Twitter^[2] user @milkinhisbag posted the image captioned "wait a damn minute…….." as if shocked by the thickness, gaining over 99,000 likes and 7,300 retweets in two days. That day Twitter^[6] user @ateadevilfruit commented on the tweet with additional footage of the alleged same Grinch taken that night showing off his butt (shown below).

On the same day, Instagram^[5] page patiasfantasyworld posted an image macro with a caption about the Grinch stealing their BBL appointment, gaining over 54,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). On December 7th, Instagram^[3] user boomer.jim posted an image macro captioned "me on my way to Pronoun Park" (shown below, right) referencing an ironic woke edit of the Fortnite map,^[4] gaining over 55,500 likes in under a day.

On the same day, TikToker^[7] @creat1ve posted a video featuring an original song titled "Material Grinch" using the image, gaining over 62,000 views in a day (shown below).
