They're Doing This to Me Tomorrow is a catchphrase often used as a caption for cursed images, especially those depicting people or animals having undergone a bizarre, often deadly, experience. The catchphrase was spawned by a viral X / Twitter post in November 2023, spreading through additional memes into early 2024.

Origin

On November 1st, 2023, X[1] / Twitter user @shitbiscuit posted a photograph of a dissected nervous system, writing, "they're doing this to me tomorrow." The post (shown below) garnered over 190 reposts and 2,000 likes in six months.

Spread

More users continued using the catchphrases as a caption for memes in the following weeks. On November 3rd, 2023, X[2] user @krus_chiki posted a schematical picture of an assassination, captioning it with the phrase (shown below, left). The post received over 190 reposts and 3,100 likes in six months.

On November 16th, X[3] user @jamespilled posted an image of a seal strapped to a board with headphones attached to his head, captioning it with the phrase. The post (shown below, right) received over 40 reposts and 300 likes in five months.

On February 1st, 2024, X[4] user @alob_e made the earliest viral post within the format, posting a video of a flattened rodent paired with the phrase. The post (shown below) garnered over 3,400 reposts and 26,000 likes in three months.

More memes, both image and video captions using the catchphrase, went viral online in March and April 2024.
