About
They Just Can't Get My Nose Right is a redraw meme format and fan art trend based on a scene from the 2010 animated film Tangled in which the character Flynn Rider holds up his own wanted poster and exclaims, "They just can't get my nose right." The scene became the subject of memes and redraws as early as 2012, becoming increasingly popularized over the following years.
Origin
On November 24th, 2010, Disney's Tangled was released in theaters. In one scene, Flynn Rider sees a wanted poster featuring a drawing of his face, with a noticeably large nose. He grabs the poster and complains, "They just can't get my nose right."
The earliest known redraw referencing the scene was posted by DeviantArt[1] user PsychoDikdik on February 13th, 2012, redrawing Rider and Rapunzel as My Little Pony characters, garnering over 250 favorites in 12 years. Notably, the drawing is not done in the most popular format, with future versions redrawing a specific scene from the film, whereas this drawing is a reference to the scene.
Spread
The scene became the further subject of redraws throughout the 2010s and 2020s as additional artists recreated the scene from Tangled with other pop culture characters.
On April 3rd, 2016, Tumblr[2] user ganondorked posted a redraw depicting Rider as Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda garnering over 5,000 notes in eight years.
On September 26th, 2024, X[3] artist @_chaendeulleo_ posted a redraw of the meme depicting Rider as Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, garnering over 25,000 likes in a day. The meme references a specific wanted poster seen in the game, which features a crudely drawn portrait of Princess Zelda.
