The X-ray Is Safe, Don't Worry refer to a series of memes which parody the behavior of X-ray technicians during the radiography procedure. The memes highlight that despite the assurances that the X-ray screening is completely safe, technicians leave the room or stand behind a protective screen during the procedure.

Origin

On June 17th, 2019, Redditor aayolfisgay posted a meme based on an image of a person in a hazmat suit standing behind a protective screen.[1] The post gained over 10,800 upvotes in four days.

Spread

In the following days, the format saw a significant spread on Reddit. For example, on June 17th, 2019, Redditor nicolas_watson posted a Minecraft version of the meme, gaining over 27,900 upvotes in three days (shown below, left).[2] On June 18th, Redditor G0LDEN-GARBAGE posted a version of the meme based on a still image from Mythbusters TV show which gained over 20,900 upvotes in two days (shown below, right).[3]
