About
The World Is Healing is a catchphrase used in memes and tweets that identifies a situation that proves the Earth and mankind are becoming baseline again. The situation is usually related to an internet discourse, phenomenon or meme. It gained frequent usage on Twitter in the 2020s, piggybacking on the virality of the similar Nature Is Healing meme that started during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Origin
Starting in March 2020, Twitter[1][2] users started to use the phrase "The world is healing" when referencing the environmental effects of humans being in lockdown during the first month of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The variant phrase Nature Is Healing became associated with the concept of dolphins returning to Italy due to a viral tweet[3] that claimed the animal was returning to the canals of Venice. The tweet inspired a meme trend with multiple iterations based on the concept (examples shown below).
Around the same time, Twitter users started using the phrase "The world is healing" in viral tweets. The first-known, notable tweet to use the phrase was posted by Twitter[4] user @bombsfall on April 6th, 2020, reading, "Drove past a bunch of deer standing in the Denny's parking lot. The world is healing," gaining over 370 likes in three years (shown below).
Spread
Going into 2020, more viral iterations surfaced on Twitter. For instance, on April 24th, 2020, Twitter[5] user @A12120NA used the phrase to caption a McDonald's sign reading, "McRib Is Back," gaining roughly 19,300 likes three years (shown below, left). On September 25th, 2020, YouTuber Drew Gooden posted a quote retweet to Twitter[6] of a virtual audience moment during the Kelly Clarkson Show, gaining roughly 47,300 likes in three years (shown below, right).
Going into the 2020s, the phrase drifted from its association with the COVID-19 lockdown and began to earn common usage in memes and on Twitter. For instance, in 2021, many K-pop Twitter[7][8] used the phrase. On October 1st, 2021, Lil Nas X used the phrase in a QRT[9] to caption nuns dancing to his song, gaining roughly 113,200 likes in two years (shown below).
In both 2022 and 2023, memetic usage of the phrase continued. For instance, on December 17th, 2022, Twitter[10] user @tize4PF tweeted, "havent seen any latina horny tweets in a while the world is healing," gaining roughly 32,900 likes in five months (shown below).
