The Waffle House Has Found Its New Host is a spam comment phrase coined by viewers of YouTuber JonnyRaZer as part of a social media prank campaign started in mid-January 2023. The spam comment spread across YouTube and TikTok comments that month, inspiring several explainer videos and memes (including animations) referencing it. JonnyRaZer urged his viewers to only use the spam comment until January 31st, 2023.

Origin

On January 13th, 2023, YouTuber[1] Jonny RaZeR Shorts posted a YouTube Short asking his viewers to "gaslight" the internet by picking a spam comment to post on social media platforms (shown below). In the video, he says he will announce what the comment is on January 31st. Within 72 hours, the video gained over 1.2 million views.

Spread

The following day on January 14th, 2023, Jonny RaZeR uploaded a YouTube[2] Short about the spam comment, announcing that "The Waffle House Has Found Its New Host" is the spam comment to use after it gained support from commenters on his previous YouTube video, calling for viewers to continue the prank campaign until two weeks later on January 31st, 2023 (shown below). He also posted a version of the video to TikTok,[3] garnering over 900,000 views in two days.

On January 15th, 2023, Jonny RaZeR uploaded a video to YouTube[4] explaining the meme, which gathered more than 300,000 views within 24 hours (shown below). In the video, he explains how the comment has spread across YouTube and TikTok. The comment inspired numerous videos explaining its backstory, including a video by TikToker[5] @noahglenncarter on January 16th, garnering over 182,000 views in a day.

That day, YouTubers[6][7] TwiShorts and Engween posted videos referencing the meme, the former creating an image of a Waffle House in Minecraft, garnering over 44,000 and 209,000 views respectively in two days (shown below, left and right).

The spam comment also inspired memes and animations on YouTube. For example, on January 15th, YouTuber[8] Meme Zee posted a meme animation inspired by the catchphrase, garnering over 197,000 views in two days (shown below).
