Smeeze is a dance that was created by turf dancer Chonkie from Oakland in 2009 and a song created for Chonkie by rapper Milla in 2019. The dance began trending on TikTok in February 2020 typically using the song “She Gon Go” by Trill Ryan.

Origin

In 2009, the smeeze was created by dancer Chonkie of the dance group Turf Fienz according to StayHipp.^[1] On May 17th, 2018, Milla music uploaded "'Smeeze Dance Video' – Milla (DANCE VIDEO) Dir 3xE Studios (Starring Chonkie, Turf Biebe)" (shown below). The video garnered over 52,700 views in nine months.

Spread

On January 21st, Chonke also known as @chonkster_ on TikTok posted a smeeze tutorial which gained over 79,300 likes in a month (shown below, left). On February 26th, TikToker and star of This Is Us @sterlingkbrown uploaded a video of himself and co-stars doing the smeeze (shown below, center). The video accumulated over 745,900 likes in two days. The next day, TikToker @g0ddessammiya garnered over 718,800 likes in a day.
