The Righteous Wrath Of An Honorable Man is a 2011 track by experimental saxophonist Colin Stetson that became a viral sound on TikTok in late 2021, spreading over the following years. The audio is most commonly used in videos of sped-up cat footage or clips of other animals.
Origin
"The Righteous Wrath of an Honorable Man" was originally released by Colin Stetson in 2011 on his album New History Warfare Volume 2: Judges (shown below).[1]
On August 28th, 2021, TikToker @JennaConkus paired the song with a sped-up video of her cat drinking water from a sink, gaining over 591,000 likes in roughly 16 months (shown below).
Spread
Over the following months, other TikTokers made similar videos with great viral success. For example, on October 31st, 2021, TikToker @Liza_Tkachuk posted a sped-up video of her cat making biscuits that gained over 1.9 million likes in 14 months (shown below, left). On November 3rd, TikToker @maxthemysticalcat then posted a video of their cat clawing at a glass door, gaining over 1.4 million likes in a similar time frame.
While the meme focused mostly on cats, some users used the sound with other animals. For example, on February 7th, 2022, TikToker yezh.mo used the sound with a hedgehog, gaining over 442,000 likes in nearly a year (shown below, left). The sound saw a revival in the Overworked Cats Making Biscuits trend in December 2022. On December 23rd, TikToker @penelope_.may posted a video in that trend with the sound, gaining over 5,000 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
