The Person The Personality is a two-panel image macro series in which memers share a selfie a cultural figure they believe describes their personality (similary to Art / Artist, Art vs. Artist and The Poet / The Poem).

Origin

The earliest known usage of the format was published on February 8th, 2020 by Twitter^[1] user @marlo_fury, who posted a selfie and an image of the fictional superhero Deadpool. The tweet received more than 840 likes in less than five months (shown below).

Spread

In May 2020, the meme went viral on Twitter. On May 6th, Twitter^[2] user @grandmathebaby tweeted a version of the meme featuring actor Eartha Kitt from the film All By Myself: The Eartha Kitt Story. The post received more than 1,300 likes and 130 retweets in less than one week (shown below, left).

Over the next few days, people began posting variations of the meme. For example, Twitter^[3] user @PearlsFromMyrna shared two versions of the same photographs of a woman wearing different jackets. The tweet received more than 1,900 likes and 150 retweets in less than three days (shown below, center). Twitter^[4] user @gersanc_ tweeted a variation that received more than 4,500 likes and 390 retweets in less than one week (shown below, right).
