On February 27th, 2025, the final trailer for the 2025 live-action film A Minecraft Movie was released online.^[1] At the trailer's 0:40-minute mark (shown below), Jack Black as Steve says, "The Nether," as he stares blankly at the Minecraft realm.

On February 28th, 2025, TikToker^[2] @pinleague shared a so-called "brainrot" edit that sped up and slowed down The Nether quote, adding fire and speaking head emojis. The video received over 164,800 likes in a month (shown below).

In the following weeks, The Nether was often compared to other quotes from A Minecraft Movie, which were heavily memed. For instance, also on February 28th, 2025, TikToker^[3] @dec.2763 shared a video that combined Flint and Steel with The Nether as they are said one after the other in the trailer. Over one month, the video received roughly 195,600 likes (shown below).

On March 1st, 2025, TikToker^[4] @steven_craft2011 combined many of the clips from the final trailer, starting with The Nether. Over one month, the video received over 1.6 million likes (shown below).

On March 31st, TikToker^[5] @xslappity posted an AI video that rotoscoped streamer CaseOh onto Jack Black, also replacing the audio with an AI voice. Over five days, the video received over 63,900 likes (shown below).
