Origin

"The Mongols" movie

The color film takes place during the Mongol invasion on Poland. Genghis Khan wanted to stop fighting wars while his son, Ögedei, wanted to continue. The movie has been described as historically inaccurate.

Crash Course

The editors of Crash Course likely created a montage of the movie to use in their series on World History. The first instance was shown and explained in the first episode (see below, right). The Mongol Empire eventually received it's own video.

The Mongoltage clip was referenced in 2015 by the YouTuber Spirit Of The Law in his review of the Mongol civilisation from Age of Empires II.
