The LGBTQ Crowd Is Mad Because the Hawk Tuah Girl Is Stealing Their Attention During Pride Month refers to a series of memes parodying a social media post claiming that "the LGBTQ crowd" is mad that the Hawk Tuah meme got so popular in June 2024 that it supposedly overshadowed that year's Pride Month. The phrasal template format saw brief virality on X / Twitter in late June 2024 as people swapped out the subject people were supposedly mad at.
Origin
On June 23rd, 2024, during the viral popularity of the Hawk Tuah meme, X[1] / Twitter user @iAnonPatriot wrote that the LGBTQ community was mad over the meme supposedly stealing spotlight from the Pride Month. The post (shown below) garnered over 7,900 reposts and 85,000 likes in four days.
Spread
On June 26th, 2024, X[2] user @Zeebrongis posted the earliest found notable parody of the post, a Star Wars joke that received over 80 reposts and 560 likes in one day (shown below, left). Later that day, X[3] user @SoloInterrobang made a parody post that garnered over 240 reposts and 2,700 likes in the same period (shown below, right).
On June 26th and 27th, 2024, multiple versions of the meme were shared by users on X / Twitter. For example, on June 26th, X[4] user @WhostheotherMES made a joke about a "giant black orb above Glendale Arizona" that received over 4,900 reposts and 46,000 likes in one day (shown below).
