The E-Sex Was Crazy refers to a series of parody memes that present broken computers, routers and phones as a result of having "crazy e-sex." Spawned by a tweet, the format got popularized on Twitter and TikTok.

Origin

On July 5th, 2021, Twitter user @CARTISCHOPPA tweeted, "router still shaking from that e-sex i had," implying that virtual sex was so intense it physically their impacted the computer equipment. The tweet (shown below) gained 40 likes prior to getting deleted, but was screencapped and widely shared on Instagram and other platforms in August 2021. For example, on August 10th, 2021, Instagram[1] user tumtumthefrail posted the image, with the post gaining over 180 likes in two years. On August 14th, Instagram[2] user lilbottomtext posted it, with the post gaining over 2,800 likes in the same period.

Spread

Prior to December 30th, 2021, an unknown user captioned an image of a PC set scattered on the floor, "the e sex was crazy" (shown below). Starting on December 30th, multiple users on Instagram posted the image; for example, a post[3] by user ecco2ksdirtytoiletwater gained over 10,000 likes in one year. On December 31st, 2021, Instagram[4] user zeldas.butt posted the image, gaining over 43,400 likes in the same period.

Through 2022, the catchphrase saw furthers spread on TikTok and other sites. For example, on February 15th, 2022, TikTok[5] user owenlawsonn made a post that gained over 1.6 million views and 245,000 likes in one year (shown below, left). On May 8th, 2022, TikTok[6] user pr3viet posted a meme that gained over 897,000 views and 168,000 likes in ten months (shown below, right).
