The Drewth Is Spreading is a catchphrase coined by LA-based podcasters, YouTubers and media personalities Drew Phillips and Enya Umanzor. The term is used to refer to Drew's supposed vast influence on youth culture and was first coined on "Emergency Intercom," a podcast he co-hosts with Enya. The phrase grew in virality after Drew uploaded a picture with model and influencer Bella Hadid in June 2022, with fans trying to "Spread The Drewth" across social media.

Origin

On March 13th, 2020, the official YouTube^[1] account for "Field Trip," a show by Enya, Drew and their friend Josiah, uploaded an episode titled "we became popstars." At the 15:35-minute timestamp, Drew refers to their satirical band as "The Druth." The upload has gathered over 200,000 views and 19,000 likes in nearly two years (see below, left). On October 8th, 2021, the official YouTube^[2] account for Drew and Enya's podcast "Emergency Intercom" uploaded a video titled "Emergency Intercom – Episode 14 (Notes App Apologies)." At the 38:10 timestamp, Enya and Drew say "I am the Drewth." The upload has gathered over 300,000 views and 13,000 likes in 10 months (see below, right).

On March 11th, 2022, Emergency Intercom uploaded a video to their YouTube^[3] page. Titled, "Emergency Intercom – Episode 36 (our friends are parasites)," the video features Drew talking at length about "The Drewth," noting how similar it sounds to "the truth," and saying that he should start his own Alex Jones-style podcast where he solely spreads misinformation. The upload has gathered over 400,000 views and 18,000 likes in approximately six months.

Spread

Listeners and fans of Emergency Intercom and Drew Phillips began to post about "The Drewth" on social media in the months proceeding the aforementioned episodes, by making fan art and talking about how "the Drewth is spreading." On May 29th, 2022, Redditer^[4] dezthesalamander posted fan art to the /r/emergencyintercom. The image featured a collage of Drew's photos and text that read "The Drewth Is Spreading, big things are coming, do your Drew diligence and practice Drewdaism today!" The post gathered over 160 upvotes and 11 comments in nearly three months.

On June 26th, 2022, Drew Phillips uploaded an image of him and Bella Hadid to his Instagram,^[5] prompting fans and followers to express their surprise at the unexpected collaboration. The post is captioned, "This is my twin right here…😭The drewth is spreading at an alarming rate," gathering over 200,000 likes in approximately two months.

According to a screenshot posted by Twitter^[6] user @eve4evaa on June 26th, 2022, Bella Hadid reposted the image to her story with a caption that read "the drewth 😍." The tweet has gathered over 20,000 likes and 1,500 retweets in approximately two months.

On August 19th, Drew and Enya were interviewed by Paper Magazine^[7] and provided the following answer when asked about "The Drewth."

"Drew: This is all I’ll say: The Drewth is spreading. That's all you need to know. If you really want to know more about it, tap in.

Enya: You know what’s so annoying about the whole “Drewth” thing is it is real. Like, it is a joke, but it is so real. Like Drew genuinely believes that he has the key."
